A place to ask
“What if?”
A learning space begins with the feeling that a question is welcome.
Read the reflection
Before a lesson begins, there is a quieter question: does a child feel comfortable taking part? A familiar face, a patient listener and permission to make mistakes can make a room feel more inviting.
Good learning activities can begin with ordinary things: reading a story together, working out how something is made, or letting a child explain an idea in their own words. The aim is to leave room for curiosity and different ways of understanding.
For anyone hoping to mentor, a useful starting point is to ask what children already enjoy and what their teachers or caregivers consider helpful. Consistency and preparation matter as much as enthusiasm.
